Last Friday we held our annual Story Dog thank you morning tea and fundraising day. This year we were visited by our Area Co-ordinator, Julie-Anne, the Volunteer Grant Manager, David, and our wonderful weekly volunteer team, Sally and her dog Lilly.
Story Dogs is a program that helps Year 2 children to learn to love reading and books by reading with a friendly dog and their volunteer handler once a week. It is a not-for-profit organisation that relies on fundraising and sponsorship to operate as well as their amazing volunteers who give up their time. Story Dog Teams have been volunteering at Chevallum State School for the past seven years and it total, have worked with more than 60 students over this time.
The fundraiser and morning were organised by our hard-working Early Act team. This year they once again organised a book swap and some face painting to raise money for the Story Dog foundation. The day was a huge success with over $580 raised and many students in the school going home with new books to share with their families.
We would love to have more volunteer teams at Chevallum. If you know someone with a friendly dog who could give up a couple of hours of their time once a week, we would love them to contact Story Dogs to find out more information about how they could join this amazing organisation.
