Chevallum Readers Cup State Runners Up!
For a small school Chevallum State School has a remarkable knack of producing reading champions.
After winning the Regional Competition for the 8th time our victorious team of Benaiah, Noah, Mia, Arlo and Charlotte headed to the State Final on September 7th full of excitement for the task ahead. The competition proved very close and very exciting.
Our team went into the State Final in Brisbane, knowing they had done all the hard work, self-managed their preparation and could enjoy the challenge that is Readers Cup.
The final was contested strongly by all teams and the comprehension skills of the teams from State and Private schools throughout Queensland, were just amazing, with only half a point or one point separating the teams at times. However, in the end Chevallum was declared runner up by just two points, behind St Peter and Paul’s College, Bulimba. Glenvale State School from the Darling Downs Region ame in third place. The Chevallum team were very excited to be announced State Runners Up and received their trophies and medals from guest Quiz Master, award winning Australian author Deborah Abela.
The sustained success of Chevallum in the Readers Cup at a regional and state level can be put down to a number of factors. Our school culture which fosters a love of literature and collaborative learning among our students, reflecting our belief in educating the whole student and developing strong and independent young thinkers.
We commend the team for their commitment and for working so very well as a team to achieve success. Thank you also to the parents and class teachers for their support of Readers Cup during the Semester.
