END OF YEAR LIBRARY NEWS

2021 has been another very busy year in the library. There has been fantastic borrowing right across all year levels and as always it is rewarding to see our young Preps grow as readers during the year. We wish our Year 6 students all the best with their studies at High School and hope they will continue to read quality literature throughout their school life and beyond.

EVENTS & ACTIVITIES
Book Week was a big success with the theme “OLD WORLDS, NEW WORLDS, OTHER WORLDS”. From Prep to Year 6 including our teachers, the costumes were original, colourful and fun. A big thank you to the teachers who as always get involved in a big way. To all the parents who helped with costumes and Library Leader helpers another big thank you.

Our Readers Cup team continued the Chevallum tradition of great teamwork and dedication. The competition this year was extremely close and our team made the finals again in an awesome team display. April, Freya, Nate, Myla and Eva should be very proud of their performance and preparation which earned them 2nd Place in the Regional Competition against over 30 private and state schools from across the Sunshine Coast.
Inter-house Readers Cup was another great success with Gurooman taking home the title this year in a close battle with defending champions Waruee. Congratulations to Tom , April and Myla and Team Manager Miss Sarah.

Our Break Time Activities were popular again this year, with students enjoying our traditional board and card games, colouring in and of course just meeting and spending time with their friends sharing a good book or reading quietly in a comfortable beanbag. The Friday afternoon tea Bluey DVD is so popular that we have to make extra room for all our eager viewers. All these activities will return next year. We also enjoyed welcoming Story Dogs each week, it was lovely to have beautiful dogs and their caring owners visiting each week to help our young readers gain confidence. Story Dogs is a volunteer organisation which does great work in schools throughout Australia.

THANK YOU
A big thank you to Gail Uroda who has helped out covering a massive number of books this year. Thank you to our Library Leaders who help with the running of the library at our busy lunch and afternoon tea times.
Last but not least a BIG thank you to all the families who share books, encourage reading at home and make books and stories part of their family tradition.

Don’t forget to visit our wonderful council libraries over the Christmas break, they have many wonderful activities on offer. Visit the Sunshine Coast Regional Council website for more information on what is happening in your local Library.

The Library wishes all our families a safe and happy Christmas holiday and we hope you catch up on all that reading you have been saving up during your busy year. See you in 2022!
Regards,  Scott and Kerri
