We warmly welcome all of our new families to Chevallum State School and
welcome back to our current families. It was heartening to see so many of our parents back on our school site for the return of schooling. New Chevallum families will quickly become familiar with our school routines, make new connections with other families and feel like an integral part of our school community.
I would to like formally acknowledge the amazing service and commitment by our P&C to our school community particularly our P&C Executive. I emphasise they are a group of volunteers who support our school to improve learning outcomes for our students – your children. I know the P&C are always looking to extend their membership and/volunteer base so please contribute in any way you can.
Welcome new teachers
I would like to formally welcome Miss Megan (Family I, Prep/Year 1 teacher, Monday – Wednesday and Learning Support Teacher – Thursday and Friday) who has transferred in from Far North Queensland.
I would also like to formally welcome Mr Dan (Family A, Year 2-4 teacher) who has transferred in from Kingaroy State School.
P&C WELCOME MORNING TEA
Both staff and parents alike, appreciated the presence of a coffee van on the start of the new school year – thank you to the P&C for organising this special event. A small but dedicated group of P&C volunteers catered a morning tea for our new Chevallum parents. It was a great opportunity for parents to make new community connections. For many parents it was their first child to attend formal schooling. The gathering was the perfect time for parents to debrief and know that Chevallum State School is a very supportive community.
PUPIL FREE DAYS
Our teaching staff returned early to participate in three Pupil Free Days starting on 20 January. This time has proven to be very valuable for our school and staff as it was not only an opportunity for in-depth preparation and planning for this year but also a time to refocus and extend our core professional learning.
The key foci across the Pupil Free Days were:-
• Staff 2021 Induction procedures and policies
• Refining school wide systematic delivery of curriculum – assessment, moderation and reporting
• Refocussing school priorities in Writing – unpacking the Chevallum Writing Framework
• Implementing the new Chevallum Student Code of Conduct
2021 – OUR CENTENARY YEAR!

There will be a number of events over the three days so say tuned in 2021 for more information. All events will be guided by the current COVID 19 conditions and advice at the time. Details of Centenary celebrations to be advised.
