Well, Book Week has come and gone for another year and it was a wonderful time of literature celebration and fun. We had a great participation rate with all our competitions with students producing colourful work which has helped to decorate our library.
AN AUTHOR AT OUR SCHOOL
This year, our very own resident author, Kerri Day’s book “Beside the Sea”, illustrated by Jess Racklyeft, was named as a Notable Book Early Childhood by The Children’s Book Council of Australia. A remarkable achievement. We are so lucky to have Kerri working in our library.
CHAMPION BORROWERS
Our Book Week Parade was a great success with many families attending. Thank you so much for your support. We announced our Champion Borrowers at the parade. They are Early Years – Amos and Lincoln; Middle School Kyla and Baylen and in the Upper School – Bali and Eva. The Champion Borrowing Class was Family D. Congratulations to all these fantastic borrowers.
COSTUMES
Costumes this year were outstanding with creative flair and enthusiasm clearly on show from students and staff. Chevallum has many people who identify with the theme “Read Grow Inspire”. This year’s theme Read, Grow and inspire, put simply is/ books/reading helps us grow in so many ways as we develop a better understanding of ourselves, others and the world around us. They fill us with inspiration.
The benefits of reading are well known and many. It exercises the mind, stretches our imagination, builds our vocabulary and improves our spelling, writing and logical thinking skills. Helps us learn about our past and possibilities for the future.
We saw many students who were inspired to create fantastic costumes. Seeing book characters come to life was wonderful, we even had some dragons at school! A big thank you to all the families who helped create all the Book Week costumes.
THANK YOU
Once again, the Teachers of Chevallum really got into the spirit of Book Week with some terrific costumes. Thank you so much to our wonderful staff for helping to grow great readers at Chevallum.
Book Week serves as a reminder that Australia has produced and continues to produce top quality authors. tell great stories which engage children with new ideas, emotions, cultures and adventures which in turn inspires them and helps them grow as readers and learners.
Thank you so much to all the families for embracing Book Week each year it was a great dress up day and we look forward to next year to see who will arrive on the day looking absolutely fabulous!
