Moving from Primary to High School

The move from primary to high school can be a time of excitement and new experiences. It can also be challenging or worrying for some students. Helping your child prepare for high school and making them feel supported will reduce the risk of disengagement from school in the future.

It is normal that, at some stage in life, every individual will feel anxious when faced with a difficult situation. Each individual will cope with anxiety in different ways. During difficult times, you can support your child to cope with anxiety in effective ways and by doing so, enhance their resilience. Anxiety becomes a problem when it is persistent and prevents them from enjoying normal life experiences for a long period of time.

Acknowledgement to Country – Book Week Parade

An Acknowledgement to Country is a respectful and significant practice that we embrace and encourage at Chevallum. Proud Aboriginal student Jack Jarrett opened our Book-Week parade with a beautiful Acknowledgment written especially for the occasion-

“Storytelling is the original classroom. Through storytelling, history, beliefs and knowledge about people, places and the world are relayed to each new generation.

Storytelling is also about bringing people together to laugh about life, adventures, love, travelling and mishaps. For tens of thousands of years, stories have been told through art, song and dance by our Indigenous custodians.

We are honoured to continue learning about stories on this land of the Gubbi Gubbi people - to be inspired by the beautiful country, skies and waterways that all tell their own stories. We give thanks to the generations of storytellers and Elders for their care and sharing of these stories for millennia.”

Mental Health First Aid Officers

Our Mental Health First Aid Officers did an amazing job during Bullying-No Way Week. They organised press and publicised the event throughout the school, decorated our hall and bravely spoke on parade.

Their message of BE BOLD, BE KIND, SPEAK UP was delivered school-wide and encouraged a new generation of students to be Upstanders, not Bystanders. Thank you MHFAO team for your hard work and dedication.

Have a wonderful holiday! I look forward to seeing you in Term 4.

Miss Dani.
