Our Readers Cup team for 2023 – Noah, Benaiah, Charlotte, Arlo and Mia have put in a great performance to win the regional competition and become the Sunshine Coast Regional Champions. The school received a trophy to which is proudly displayed in the Library and each team member also received a trophy to keep.
The competition is organised by the Qld Branch of The Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA).

This is the 6th time Chevallum has won the Regional Competition. We have also won the State Title once and been runners up at State twice. This is a fantastic achievement for a relatively small school and reflects our strong reading culture and the ability of our students to show committed team work.

Under the rules of the competition, the team has to manage themselves, which has included meeting weekly, as well reading all the books in their own time at home.

After many weeks, preparing the team was ready for the challenge of Readers Cup which was held at Immanuel Lutheran College.  Our team competed against 30 state and private schools from across the Sunshine Coast.

It was a tightly fought contest with Chevallum opening their score well with a perfect 10 in Round 1, so we were always going to be tough to beat. However, Pomona S.S scored two Perfect 10s in the following rounds closing in on Chevallum.  Exciting stuff!  Our Team rallied in the final rounds to claim the win by 2 and a half points. Congratulations to Pomona S.S who finished in 2nd place and Buddina S.S who came 3rd.

The State Finals are in Brisbane in September, where our team will compete against state and private schools from across Queensland, so another exciting competition awaits.

Once again, we thank the families of Chevallum for helping us grow great readers.

 Regards,  Scott Barr (Teacher Librarian)
