Our support staff include:
- Fully qualified youth worker
- CEC – Community Engagement Counsellor
- Learning support teachers
- A guidance officer
- Teacher aides allocated to each family group
- Visiting advisory and support teachers.
- Access to agencies such as the school dentist and nurse.
A strong student welfare and support system exists in a school that fosters care and concern for the range of students. It endorses socially just practices in a supportive school environment. The school uses the Principles of Restorative Justice within our behaviour management framework.
CEC – Community Engagement Counsellor
Chevallum State School funds a position called a CEC – Community Engagement Counsellor (Identified).
Our Youth Worker Dani Jones is employed in this role at our school.
This role is designed to provide educational counselling and support services within schools to ensure that the best possible assistance services are available to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children, students, families and communities.
The role is also responsible for providing cross cultural awareness training to the broader school community. Dani Jones is on-campus 5 days per week and welcomes regular contact with students, families and community.
Youth Worker
Chevallum provides the services of a qualified Youth Worker five days per week.
Parents and students alike are welcome to utilise the service. The service provides one-on-one student support as well as small group work.
A number of experience-based activities are also offered, including:-
- Mental Health First Aid Officer Program
- Chess
- African Drumming and much more
Activities and programs are designed to provide a tailored option, based on the requirements of the school community.
