Our vision

To develop balanced individuals who can positively contribute to the community, having respect for and understanding of individual and cultural difference.

Our purpose

To develop life-long learners with the capability and confidence to take risks and the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve their full potential in an ever changing world

Our values and beliefs

The following are the values and beliefs which influence all that we do at our school.

Chevallum State School:

Our philosophy

Our aim is to cater for the learning needs of the individual child. In other words, it is our aim to provide an environment to enable each child to develop:

1. All the skills needed to learn

Academic skills of literacy, numeracy and research; Social skills of cooperation and responsibility; Personal skills which enable a child to be secure enough to accept the challenges of self-direction and decision making, and physical skills of manipulation, vision and coordination.

2. A desire to learn

Lifelong learning is a reality in our ever-changing world. All children are born with an innate desire to learn. This desire to learn facilities a love of learning throughout a child’s infant years. Therefore it is our aim to assist children to continue this natural desire to learn in a school setting.

3. A knowledge of how to learn

This is essential for children living in our continually changing environment.

In developing this environment one must consider the following points:

- Children have different learning styles.

- There must be a ‘someone’ involved in a child’s learning.

Our philosophy ensures:

Our mission/aim

To cater for the learning needs of the individual child.

To do this we have to provide an environment that will enable each child to develop:

  • all the skills needed to learn, including the academic the physical and the social/emotional skills.
  • a desire to learn.
  • a knowledge of how to learn.

In developing this environment one must consider :

(I) The learners different learning styles

(II) The importance of relationships in the learning process.          

Research has shown us how important is to develop the whole child because of the impact physical and social emotional development has on cognitive development. It is essential that these three areas provide the basis for a balanced curriculum.

All children are born with an innate desire to learn and learn more in their first five years of life than any other five year period. It is our challenge to provide a learning environment in the school setting where this natural desire to learn will facilitate a love of learning not only throughout schooling but throughout life.

With knowledge doubling every 2.3 years, it is vital that children learn “how to learn”, how to access information and how to discriminate and organise the information required to support their learning. This is essential for children living in our continually changing environment.
