What is Strawbfest?
Strawbfest is a major fundraising event for Chevallum School Community, staged by our amazing volunteers. It reflects not only Chevallum’s unique rural location, it also provides a platform for showcasing the creative and diverse talents of our whole community.
Strawbfest comes alive at Chevallum State School from 5pm till late, attracting thousands of people from across the coast and hinterland. Mirroring the multitude of influences in our school community, Strawbfest offers a vibrant multi-cultural world of food and a variety of entertainment.
Each Strawbfest we offer exciting entertainment options ranging from LIVE music, fantastic carnival amusement rides, the ever-popular Strawberry Daiquiri bar, numerous traditional stalls, an abundance of delicious strawberries, all the fun of side show alley, and much, much more with the evening culminating in an impressive burst of colour and light with our fireworks display.
This renowned community event helps provide a host of additional resources for the school, including water bubblers, play equipment, technology, musical instruments and art equipment.
Strawbfest is held bi-annually, so watch out for news of when it will be held, it is well worth the visit.
A Brief History
In 1986 the Chevallum School Community, represented by the Parents and Citizens Association, set out to create a fundraising event that would, with the support of local strawberry farmers, capitalise on the annual strawberry harvest and capture the creative spirit of the community.
Their vision was to create an event that was entirely different from traditional school fetes, was a quality event in every way, celebrated community and highlighted the attributes that set Chevallum School apart from all others. Although Chevallum School at the time of the conception of Strawbfest only had a population of some 90 students the Association succeeded in creating an event that has been successfully celebrated every year for over 25 years.
The enduring traditions and values of Strawbfest have produced a consistent winning combination. From humble beginnings Strawbfest has evolved into a celebration that attracts thousands of people from all over the coast and hinterland.
All this gives children at Chevallum a wonderful start to becoming well-rounded, global citizens.
