SCHOOL SUPERVISOR AND REGIONAL DIRECTOR VISIT

Chevallum State School recently had the pleasure of hosting two guests from the North Coast Region: Reid Thompson, our school supervisor, and his boss, Lyal Giles, the Regional Director.

From the moment they stepped onto our campus, Mr Thompson and Mr Giles were enveloped in the warm and welcoming atmosphere of Families A, B and H. This sense of inclusivity and belonging is a testament to the strong sense of community fostered within our walls.

Throughout their visit, Mr Thompson and Mr Giles had the privilege of observing our students actively engaging in visible learning exercises and poetry units. They were struck by the level of enthusiasm and participation displayed by our students.

One aspect that particularly impressed our visitors was the explicit instructions provided by our teachers, coupled with the gradual release of responsibility that encourages student engagement and autonomy. This pedagogical approach not only empowers students to take ownership of their learning but also fosters a sense of confidence and competence in their abilities.

Moreover, Mr Thompson and Mr Giles were pleased to see our teachers' willingness to open their classrooms and share some of the amazing visible learning practices taking place. This culture of collaboration and professional sharing speaks to the dedication and passion of our teaching staff, who are committed to continuously enhancing their craft for the benefit of our students.

In addition, our visitors commended the forward-thinking leadership team at Chevallum State School for their proactive approach to curriculum development and implementation.

As Mr Thompson and Mr Giles bade farewell to Chevallum State School, they expressed their admiration for the exceptional teaching and learning environment they had experienced during their visit. Their positive feedback serves as validation of the hard work and dedication of our entire school community, and it motivates us to continue striving for equity and excellence.

Proud Principal - Mr Hazen
