NAIDOC Celebrations

Due to NAIDOC week falling in the school holidays, we celebrated our National Indigenous Day during a full school parade after the holidays. NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each year to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’.
Our indigenous students met during the week, and under the mentorship of Miss Kaye, were able to create a beautiful array of Message Sticks that will become part of a larger installation. The students proudly displayed their completed sticks on Fridays parade and told the student body what they traditionally were used for. The NAIDOC celebrations continued in the afternoon with the whole school playing traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander games.

Chevallum Community Choir

The Chevallum Community Choir have been working hard in their rehearsals in preparation for their Strawbfest performance. They are sounding fantastic and are very excited about presenting their 15 minute set at 6.30pm in the Hall Stage. There is no costume requirement - students can wear whatever they like, as long as it includes a smile!

Chess Clubs continues on a Tuesday during lunch break in the Family E courtyard. All ages and abilities welcome.

Until next time
