HIGHLY SUCCESSFULL ‘DAY FOR DANIEL DISCO’ – EARLY ACT FUNDRAISER

The school-based event was highly successful and engaging for all. The hall was ‘alive’ with dancing, music pumping from the DJ’s speakers and colourful 80s and 90s inspired costumes.

All monies raised during 'Day for Daniel Disco' fundraiser was in support of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, whose mission is keeping children safe in Australia. Our EarlyAct Club raised an amazing amount of money – over $900, the total amount still to be finalised.

An outstanding effort from our students and their families which again demonstrates our community’s ‘big heart’ and generosity.

Congratulations to our Early Act students for their great sense of community and service and Miss Katie for her great organisation and promotional skills in supporting the event.

Instrumental Music Recruitment Concert

Our current Instrumental Music students performed on Tuesday afternoon 24 October, in a concert designed to inform and possibly inspire our Middle Phase students (Year 2-4) to join either the Strings Instrumental Music Program or the Wind/Brass/ Percussion Instrumental Music program.

The instrumental music students played short pieces of music whilst each instrument was showcased for its sound and function by our Instrumental music teachers Mr Alex Pattri (Instrumental Strings Teacher) and Mr Neil Heymink (Instrumental Band Teacher).

A big thank to the instrumental music students and teachers for the recruitment concert.

Expression of interest opportunities have now closed, and no more forms will be accepted.

We have received more interest than positions available and will let everyone know the results before the end of term, ready to join our 2024 program!

Family J's "Blue Paradise" Thinking Play Culmination Event

Parents were welcomed with a Family J acknowledgment of country, a sea creature dance involving creatures from Salt Water, Fresh Water, The Polar & The Aquarium. They concluded the welcome with the song "Taba Naba".

Then, Blue Paradise was officially open. Parents got to explore the giant habitats of each group, read about creative sea creatures designed by the students, build their own clay creatures, play a human sized game with facts and enjoy a movie full of facts from each group! The culmination finished with a shared afternoon tea with sea creature inspired snacks.

Student Leadership

The main focus on student leadership at Chevallum State School is to foster self-esteem, cooperation and responsibility. Having strong leadership skills and knowledge develops a positive environment within our whole school community. Soon the Year 6s will begin work on graduation speeches as they think about transitioning into high school and our Year 5s will begin contemplating applying for leadership positions in 2024.

Regards, Linda Short
