FROM THE PRINCIPAL

17/10/2019

Welcome back for Term 4 to all our families. It is good to see everyone refreshed and ready to finish the year on a high note.

2020 Prep Parent Induction Evening a success.
On the second last Wednesday night of Term 3 a new group of parents were inducted into the Chevallum school community. Thank you to the Prep/Year One teachers who welcomed and reassured the new parents and Miss Cathie and Mrs Fisher for the organisation of the event. P&C were also represented on the night with the Uniform Shop taking Prep uniform orders. 2020 Prep Transition to Prep mornings/afternoons will commence in Week 3 where our new 2020 Preps and their parents have the opportunity to become familiar with their new surroundings and meet new friends and Chevallum staff in preparation for next year.
If Chevallum Playgroup is any testament, our 2020 Prep children and their families are embracing the whole transition process. Thank you Sarah for being our dedicated Playgroup Coordinator.

FAMILIES NOT RETURNING IN 2019
In preparation for organising Family groupings and classes for 2020 we need to know ASAP which families (current Prep – Year 5) are not returning to Chevallum State School in 2020.
Please contact the office immediately as we have a number of ‘new’ families on waiting lists wishing to enrol in 2020.
TERM 4 SWIMMING AND SURF PROGRAMS
In Week 7, 8 and 9 of this term, Year 2-4 students will be participating in a swimming program held at Palmwoods pool whilst our Year 5 and 6 students will attend a surf program at our local beaches.
These two water safety programs are an integral part of our Chevallum Physical Education program. As the Sunshine Coast is a strong water-based culture, these water safety programs could not be more important for our students. Please note your Student Resource Scheme will NOT cover the cost of swimming/surf lessons or bus travel. However, we have applied for funding to cover swimming and surf coaches to keep the overall costs of the programs down.
Year 2-4 Swimming Program (9 x lessons over 3 weeks)
Year 5-6 Surf Program (6 x 90 min lessons over 3 weeks)
We anticipate the fees will be approximately the same as in previous years, however, we will confirm in the next newsletter. Permission notes and invoices will follow closer to the time of the programs.

What teachers do on their holidays

During the holidays the middle school teachers had a working bee to glaze over five hundred small houses that the students had made at their recent artist in residence workshops ... we can’t wait for the final unveiling!!!
